Game 1 recap

Humboldt State broke open a close game in the first half and went on to defeat UH-Hilo 102-81 in the opening game of the NCAA II West Regional tournament. Fred Hooks, the nation's third-leading rebounder scored 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Lumberjacks. Humboldt State also got a double-double off the bench from Trey Shannon (22 points, 10 rebounds) and 23 points from Austin Nichols. Brady Hyde led UH-Hilo with 21 points.

Game 2 recap

Cal State-San Bernardino raced to a 9-1 lead and never looked back in trouncing Sonoma State, 86-58, in first round action at the NCAA II West Regional today. The Coyotes got 32 points from All-American Bobby Burries and shot 50.9 percent from the field while holding Sonoma State to just 30.9 percent. The Coyotes led 44-24 at the half and were never threatened in the game. Trevor Howe led Sonoma with 24 points.

Game 3 recap

Cal Poly-Pomona defeated Alaska-Fairbanks, 80-76, tonight in a hard-fought NCAA II West Regional first round game. The lead changed hands several times in the first half before the Broncos took the lead for good 39-37 at the half. Cal Poly scored the first nine points of the second half to take an eleven point lead and then withstood several Nanook rallies to hold on for the win. Guy Beahm led four players in double figures for Pomona with 15 points while Steve Towne paced the Nanooks with 24.

Game 4 recap

Eighth-seeded Cal State-Bakersfield knocked off the West Region number one seed, BYU-Hawaii, tonight, 50-41, in the final game of West Region action. The Roadrunners held All-American Alexus Foyle, the nation's leading scorer coming into the contest, to zero first-half points and just six for the game as BYU-Hawaii shot just 26.5 percent from the field and 10.5 percent from three-point range. Terri Miller's 16 points and ten rebounds led Bakersfield while BYU-Hawaii got 15 points from Austin Smylie.

Game 5 recap

Cal State-San Bernardino overcame a six-point deficit with 7:47 to play, going on a 32-14 run to end the game and defeat Humboldt State, 80-68, tonight in NCAA II West Region action. Jonathan Levy scored 29 points and Lance Ray dropped in 21 to lead the Coyotes while point guard Te'Ron Reed scored eight points, dished out eight assists, pulled down six rebounds and made five steals before fouling out in the last minute. Austin Nichols scored 24 points to lead Humboldt State.

David Sybesma hit a jumpshot to break a 42-42 tie with under nine minutes to play and followed with a three-pointer as Cal Poly-Pomona pulled away from Cal State-Bakersfield in the second half for a 62-49 victory in the NCAA II West Regional tonight. The Broncos downed the Roadrunners for the third time this season behind 20 points from Jeff Bonds and 19 from Sybesma, who added 10 rebounds. Terri Miller scored 19 points to lead Cal State-Bakersfield.

Game 7 Recap

Fourth-seeded Cal Poly Pomona knocked off second-seeded Cal State-San Bernardino 91-84 in double overtime tonight to win the NCAA II West Region and advance to the Elite Eight. Jeff Bonds, voted the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, led the Broncos back from a 19-point second-half deficit, scoring 22 of his game-high 31 points in the second half and overtime periods. David Sybesma's running jumper at the end of regulation bounced high off the back of the rim before falling in after the buzzer to tie the score at 65-65 and force the first overtime. Sybesma, named to the All-Tournament Team, scored eight of his 17 points in overtime. All-American Bobby Burries sank two free throws at the end of the first overtime to tie the score at 74-74 and send the game into a second overtime. Burries and teammate Lance Ray were both named to the All-Tournament Team and finished with 24 and 21 points, respectively. Humboldt State's Austin Nichols rounded out the All-Tournament Team. Cal Poly Pomona will take on Great Lakes Regional Champion Kentucky Wesleyan in the NCAA II Quarterfinals.
