I. MBTI Assessment
Complete the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, a personality type assessment.

Description:

  1. Obtain an assessment ticket from the Career Center, CAF 180, or the Counseling Center, MCK 181.
  2. Present the ticket at the BYU Hawaii Testing Center to take the assessment. Allow at least 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete the MBTI.
  3. Assessment results will be available for pickup from the office where you obtained your ticket. Meet with an Advisor for interpretation and explanation of the results.

 

II. Job Competencies
Document evidence of your key or SCANS employment competencies. Learn more.

Description:

  1. Obtain the list of key employment competencies and the accompanying worksheet from the Career Services website.
  2. Identify your competencies from this list. Using the worksheet, support your selections with written evidence to document your skills.
  3. Upload your worksheet into your YCareers account.

 

III. Personal Intro
Create a 30-60 second "elevator" or personal introduction statement. "Elevator" statements are used when meeting new contacts for your personal network or can be utilized in a job interview when asked to "tell me about yourself". Learn more.

  2. Write a 30-60 second statement to introduce yourself to others during your job search process.
  3. For assistance, include a review of your statement, and email it to: careerservices@byuh.edu or schedule an appointment with a Career Advisor.

IV. Job Search Plan
Develop a job search strategy, outlining the key steps to finding your desired employment opportunity. Learn more. If graduate school is in your future, then you will outline your plan to include the graduate school admission process. Learn more.

Description:

  1. Schedule an appointment with a Career advisor (675-3533 or stop by the Career Center in CAF 180).
  2. Working with the advisor, develop a job search or graduate school admission plan. Outline the necessary steps and timeframes to implement your plan. Record the plan on the form given to you by the advisor.
  3. Upload your statement to your YCareers account.
