English as an International Language (EIL)

Numbering System

The first digit of the course number indicates the level of the class.
100 level courses: Foundations level
200 level courses: Intermediate level
300 level courses: Advanced level

The second number indicates if the course is low foundations/intermediate/advanced or high foundations/intermediate/advanced.

1 indicates low foundations/intermediate/low advanced
2 indicates high foundations/intermediate/high advanced

The third number indicates the language skill of the class.

3 indicates listening and speaking
5 indicates integrated skills (church language)
7 indicates writing
8 indicates grammar
9 indicates reading

For example, the numbers in EIL 227 indicate that:

2- this is an intermediate class
2- it is on the high intermediate (Intermediate II) level
7- it is a writing class

Some course numbers do not completely fit this system such as EIL 201, 337, 347, 357, 339, 349.
Courses with a 3, 4, or 5 as the second digit indicate that the course is a supplementary course.
