English as an International Language (EIL)
Enrollment
Students interested in enrolling in the EIL program must be accepted to BYUH as degree-seeking students.
When students who speak English as a second language arrive on campus, they are given a series of tests
to determine their academic English abilities. An academic advisor then assists students in registering
for EIL and general education courses based on these test results. Students placed at the Foundations
and Intermediate levels enroll in EIL classes only. Advanced level students may enroll in both EIL and
other university courses as their credit load allows. On average, students are able to complete their
EIL requirements in 2.5 enrollments (two semesters and a term). All EIL classes offer university credit
which helps fulfill graduation requirements.
