BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY HAWAII
FINE ARTS
THEATER DEPARTMENT

BYU-Hawaii's Theatre Arts Program teaches students the fundamentals of acting, technical theatre, make-up, and directing; even more important, it expands the cultural horizons of participating students by making them more sensitive and responsive to others as they work together on important campus stage productions.

Job opportunities for people with theatrical skills are varied. While television and the motion picture industry are considered to be the obvious sources for theatre-related jobs, there is considerable demand for stage directors, stage managers and those with production skills on high school and college campuses. Theatre is also being adapted to non-theatrical uses in such areas as mental health, child care and recreation.

A student planning to enter BYU-Hawaii's Theatre Arts Program should have a strong interest in theatre or in a supporting field like dance, music or art. The student should have a pleasing personality and be able to work well with others. One of the benefits of the Theatre Arts Program is that students learn that a production's success - like the success of any challenging collective project - depends on loyalty to the director and a positive attitude towards one's self and others.
