Aloha!

ShumwaysImagine a university where students from around the world sharpen their intellect, share solid moral values, learn to live harmoniously with people of other cultures, and prepare to contribute internationally in their careers, homes, communities and church. While other colleges might dream of this, at BYU-Hawaii it’s an everyday reality.

Our campus was founded in 1955 by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. President David O. McKay spoke eloquently then about the kind of students who would be educated here: Men and women who “cannot be bought or sold … whose influence will be felt for good towards the establishment of peace internationally.”

Today, just over half of our students are from the U.S., and 46 percent have assembled from 70 different nations. This represents the largest ratio of international students of any university in the country, and our campus community is a "living laboratory" of harmony amidst diversity. We also are recognized for our academics; U.S. News and World Report ranks BYU-Hawaii among the best undergraduate universities in the Western U.S.

I have worked at this university for 39 years and have seen many changes. But our purpose never wavers – to prepare leaders of integrity whose good influence will be felt internationally. I invite you to learn more about BYU-Hawaii and to visit our campus. It will change your life forever.
